After interning in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, he Moved to join with the United States Marine Corps Reserve and Has Been actively Engaged Responsibilities by 2003 to 2006 & at 2009 to 2013. Last Friday, we convened the Alaska Wellness Summit 2.0: Confronting Alaska’s Crime Wave, a very productive gathering of local, state and federal partners focusing on building awareness, identifying opportunities for coordination and cooperation, and highlighting Alaska’s very unique public safety challenges. The big idea was to bring top federal officials up to Alaska to see and hear firsthand about the crime wave that’s sweeping the state and its associated challenges.This 5-hour town hall style summit, co-hosted by the University of Alaska Anchorage College of Health, was open to the public and included more than 200 attendees and countless others online. We had four panel discussions, keynote addresses by key federal partners and most importantly very significant public engagement and questions. Overall it was a very successful and engaging day, with lots of input and suggestions from Alaskans that my office and our federal partners will certainly be taking back to DC. There is no one solution to these challenges, particularly the issues surrounding the opioid and heroin epidemic and the influx of drugs coming into our state, but one thing is clear – it’s going to take collaboration among local, state and federal partners to tackle them. We've already seen certain progress, with the recent High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) designation Alaska recieved (which will bring in much needed funding to tackle drug trafficking and associated crime), and we'll continue working on more.To watch the full Alaska Wellness Summit 2.0, click here: https://bit.ly/2NgRLgD

Sullivan Shares Thoughts After Pressing Trump administration on Chinese Seafood Tariffs
Today, at the public hearing of the interagency Section 301 Committee at the U.S. International Trade Commission, I testified in opposition to the Trump administration’s recent tariff proposal on $200 billion worth of products imported from China – which includes an estimated $900 million in American seafood, primarily caught by Alaskan fishermen.While I know there is much work that needs to be done to remedy deficits and hold countries like China accountable for unfair trade practices, I compel the administration – in putting ‘America First’ – to put American fishermen first. Of the products targeted by this proposal, over $900 million is American seafood, caught predominantly by Alaskan fishermen, much of which is destined for the American market. If enacted, these tariffs will clearly and wrongly target an American product harvested with American labor on American flagged vessels – completely counter to the administration’s strategy regarding China.If this were Chinese fish, harvested by Chinese fishermen on Chinese ships, then perhaps I would understand. But it isn’t and Alaskan fishermen are the ultimate American small business: they work hard, are family owned and take tremendous risks to produce a great product.
